Skiing
Liptov is one of Slovakia’s strongest mountain regions in winter. Reliable snow conditions, diverse terrain and the dramatic scenery of the Low Tatras make it a destination that attracts skiers from all over Central Europe. G&T Square Apartments have an exceptional location in this setting – they are situated right in the centre of Liptovský Mikuláš, with quick access to Jasná and at the same time in the immediate vicinity of historical landmarks, restaurants and the city’s nightlife.
SKI RESORTS
The largest ski resort, Jasná, with excellent conditions for winter sports in Slovakia, offers endless opportunities for activities, entertainment and active relaxation on both the northern and southern sides of Chopok. You can reach the summit of Chopok using the state-of-the-art Funitel cable car or the 15-person gondola. The resort offers 50 km of perfectly groomed ski slopes of various difficulty levels, suitable for beginners, families with children, advanced skiers and even for hosting world-class competitions.
For families with children and more relaxed skiers, Ski Opalisko in Závažná Poruba is an ideal choice, a small and pleasant resort near Liptovský Mikuláš, approximately 13 km away. Without crowds, with quality snowmaking and an atmosphere especially loved by families. Fun Park Žiarce in Pavčina Lehota has a similar character. It is about 10 km from the apartments and offers excellent conditions for first turns as well as relaxing winter days.
A little further away, but still within easy reach, is Malinô Brdo near Ružomberok, approximately 34–36 km away, known for its wide and safe ski slopes. It is a resort where you don’t ski under pressure, but in the rhythm of the mountains.
Ski Centrum Žiar-Dolinky
Žiar-Dolinky is a small and peaceful resort near Liptovský Mikuláš, approximately 10 km from G&T Square Apartments. It focuses on recreational skiing, families with children and beginners. It offers simple, well-maintained slopes and a pleasant atmosphere without crowds.
Iľanovo Ski Lift
Iľanovo is a typical local slope designed for lessons and short skiing sessions, approximately 12–13 km away. Its small size and lower altitude mean simpler runs and a shorter season, but as a quick and accessible alternative, it certainly has its place.
SKI MOUNTAINEERING AND WINTER MOUNTAINS
Western Tatras – Roháče (approx. 36–38 km)
Roháče are rugged, open and beautiful. Ski touring ascents from Zverovka lead into a high-mountain environment where weather, fitness and respect for the mountains are crucial. The reward is long descents and views that rank among the most beautiful in Slovakia. Roháče are not for everyone – and that is precisely what makes them exceptional.
Low Tatras – Demänovská Valley (approx. 12–14 km)
Ski touring in the Demänovská Valley offers an ideal balance between accessibility and a true mountain experience. Ascents to Chopok, Dereše or Poľana begin in the forest and end on open ridges. It is a place where you can choose your own pace and your own line. The mountains are close, but you still have to earn the summit.
BEŽKÁRSKE TRATE
Demänová and surroundings (approx. 12–14 km)
Cross-country skiing around Demänová is peaceful and natural. The trails lead through meadows and forest roads, with a gentle profile and a silence that feels restorative in winter. It is an ideal place for morning exercise or a slow afternoon in the snow.
Liptovský Ján (approx. 15 km)
The cross-country skiing trails in Jánska Valley have a smooth rhythm and a forest atmosphere. The snow lasts for a long time here, and the trails feel natural and untouched. Cross-country skiing here becomes a quiet journey through the landscape.
Podbanské (approx. 28–30 km)
Podbanské offers long cross-country skiing trails in open terrain beneath the Tatras. The snow is reliable and the trails have a smooth character, ideal for longer outings. Views of the Tatra peaks add a special sense of peace to the experience.
